US Airlines to charge baggage fees for second bag

So, it looks like US Airlines are looking for ways to augment their earnings since it seems that our economy won't be picking up soon. I guess in order to make up for lost ticket earnings, US Airlines such as Continental Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and US Airways are charging around $50 baggage fees on international flights for those who are checking in a second bag. The Airlines are charging these fees on some trans-Atlantic flights.

In the case of Continental, they are only charging the fees for coach passengers and won't affect their upper-tier members of their frequent-flier program, as well as those those seated in first or business class, customers with full-fare economy tickets, and holders of Continental's Presidential Plus credit cards or military personnel and their families traveling on official orders.
