I must admit, I really hate it when I receive email spam, however, there are some advantages in receiving email spam. Like there was one time when I received an email from an airline which I forgot that I actually opted in to their mailing lists. Anyways, because I got an alert of a very low airfare deal, I quickly grabbed the opportunity and I was able to travel to Hong Kong at a fraction of what it would have cost had I booked a regular flight.

There's really no harm in opting in of mailing lists. Just be sure to read the privacy policy of the website and that they won't give away your information to other companies. However, another thing I do is I create another free email account and use this account to subscribe to mailing lists. Once a week, I browse through my mail and try to see if anything interesting comes up and usually, there are some good travel deals from different companies.
