Traveling with a Mobile Phone: To Roam or not to Roam?
Let's face it, mobile phones are here to stay and for frequent travelers, especially for those traveling for business, they will always have their mobile phones in tow. Now the question of to roam or not to roam is not a question for business travelers whose companies pay for their travel expenses including mobile phone usage. It's a different matter altogether, for those entrepreneurs and individuals traveling for pleasure.
It's nice to always be in touch with your family and friends even when you're traveling but roaming charges are just too expensive especially during this Global Economic Crisis. So what's the other option? Prepaid simcards. It's called prepaid sim cards in some countries, in others, it's pay as you go. Almost all airports carry prepaid sim cards. They're usually cheap and you can cut back on the roaming charges that your carrier charge you. If the local carrier of the country you're visiting charges high rates for international calls or text, you can always use international calling cards. Their rates are cheap and most of them can be used on a mobile phone.
Just be sure that your current network will be supported in the country you're visiting. Some mobile phones may not work in other countries.
